help Identify parts in my almost Altec

go to www.vintageaudiosales.com and click on jbl-2 or jbl-3 they have a pair of black cast 290 drivers with the name Altec in raised relief on the back cover of the units. See If these are the same as what you have!

well, what you have is definitely Altec 1 inch compression drivers! They had different generations that had different paint, terminals etc! Black ones, grey ones, green ones!

They will sound very nice and are worth keeping!

Tubes will sound nice on these!

I am going to get down to the garage and test them and fix the usual buzzy metallic grill. etc but a brief test B4 purchase showed they were all working. next the test with music.

re tube amps
I rehabbed a stereo tube amp for a jukebox
you would cry.
I used up a pair of acrosound TO-300 out put transformers i bought in the 70s at the Dayton ham fest for 50 cents each. also switched the output tubes from el-crappo 6973 to cheaper and better 6CW5 a bit more -fixed bias by switching to input filter and modern diode [had a selenium for the bias]

rocked and rolled all night long.

I like the sound of vintage speakers! Something about the tonality.

WOW a junk pair of 10W pa amps power these to deafening levels. as predicted a bit bright in the mid range, highs a little thin or maybe it is my 57 yo hearing

You can refinish those speakers and use flea powered SET amps and probably achieve nice vintage tonality!

i have my own idea for a OTL class A constant current circuit [self adjusting to zero DC volts
this might ad a very LF inverse feedback but it would be below 5cps] [oops HZ, I'm showing my age again]a second one out of phase would double the power by driving both sides of the speaker.
sorta of the way a crown amp works [or a car radio]

"H 811 HORN" [self explanatory]
the HF driver casting has Altec Lansing Corporation in relief casting.
a sticker that has 512558 and a red stamp 8285 and a black stamp 15810.
the LF drivers have in black
512533-3
328524
and stamped twice in red 8285
the crossovers are an earlier fixed units
possibly by seeburg.
2 coils stamped in white A 5094542 B
and stamped in red 8275 one in series with the LF driver one across the HF driver.
a 12 mfd in series with the HF driver
a 25 mfd across the LF driver
